Info about Tranekær

Tranekær Castle stands high on a hill and from here there is a view over the village and a large part of North Langeland. The castle is owned by the family Ahlefeldt-Laurvig and dates back to the 13th century. The castle has been renovated many times and is one of Denmark's oldest lived-in castles. There is no public admittance to the castle, but both the surrounding Castle Park and Skvatmøllen are open to the public.
Skvatmøllen used to be used as the laundry for the castle's inhabitants but nowadays it has been converted into a museum about the Castle. In the old theatre building in front of the Castle you can find a very different museum, the Souvenir museum "Souvenariet". Just beside it, in the old horse stable, you can sit down in one of the old horse boxes and enjoy coffee or a meal in the restaurant "Herskabsstalden".

At the end of the beautiful allé which ends Tranekær village stands the old Castle Mill. Today the mill has been converted to a museum and every summer wheat is ground in the same way as it used to be done many years ago
