| Tranekær Castle stands high on a hill and from here there is a view over the village and a large part of North Langeland. The castle is owned by the family Ahlefeldt-Laurvig and dates back to the 13th century. The castle has been renovated many times and is one of Denmark's oldest lived-in castles. There is no public admittance to the castle, but both the surrounding Castle Park and Skvatmøllen are open to the public. |

Skvatmøllen used to be used as the laundry for the castle's inhabitants but nowadays it has been converted into a museum about the Castle.
In the old theatre building in front of the Castle you can find a very different museum, the Souvenir museum "Souvenariet". Just beside it, in the old horse stable, you can sit down in one of the old horse boxes and enjoy coffee or a meal in the restaurant "Herskabsstalden".
At the end of the beautiful allé which ends Tranekær village stands the old Castle Mill. Today the mill has been converted to a museum and every summer wheat is ground in the same way as it used to be done many years ago |
